Frequently Asked Questions

Answers for donors, county governments and NGO partners on how we work, protect data and partner for impact.

Answers to common questions from donors, county governments, and NGO partners about how Sonetarc Foundation works, how we use and protect data, and how to partner with us.

About the Foundation

Who is Sonetarc Foundation?

Sonetarc Foundation is a community-impact foundation supported by Sonetarc Group International Ltd’s technology, research, engineering, and data capabilities. We use advanced tools — UAV mapping, GIS, remote sensing, and data dashboards — together with strong community participation to deliver water, agriculture, climate, health, gender, energy, ICT, and research programs across Kenya.

How are you different from a traditional NGO?

We are not a traditional NGO that simply hands out aid. We are a technology-first foundation that uses data, GIS, and automation to make development sustainable, measurable, and traceable — designing every intervention with local participation and clear metrics for partners and donors.

How is the Foundation related to Sonetarc Group / Sonetarc Group International Ltd?

The Foundation is the non-profit, community-focused wing backed by Sonetarc Group International Ltd’s technology and expertise. While the corporate entity provides the technical capabilities, the Foundation applies them to community-owned development programs and social impact.

Programs & Approach

What program areas do you work in?

We work across eight pillars: Water & WASH, Agriculture & Food Security, Clean Energy & Livelihoods, ICT & Digital Inclusion, Research & Data Intelligence, Climate & Environmental Resilience, Health & Well-being, and Gender & Social Development. See What We Do for details.

Where do you operate?

Our current operational areas include Makueni, Nairobi, Kakamega, Vihiga, and Narok counties in Kenya. See Where We Work.

How do you ensure communities own the work long-term?

We build local technical ownership into every program — training community committees, local technicians, and partners to manage and sustain systems. Rather than dropping in technology and leaving, we establish community-led capacity so impact lasts.

Data, Drones & Compliance

How do you protect community and personal data?

We handle field, geospatial, and community data in compliance with the Kenya Data Protection Act (2019) and GDPR. Data is encrypted, access-controlled, and securely stored, and public reporting uses aggregated, anonymised data. See our Privacy Policy.

Are your drone operations legal and regulated?

Yes. All UAV operations strictly adhere to Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) regulations, using certified pilots and legally registered equipment. See Governance & Accountability.

Partnering & Funding

How can our organisation or county partner with you?

We collaborate with county governments, NGOs, research institutions, and private-sector partners. Visit Partner With Us or email info@sonetarcfoundation.org to start a conversation.

How do you report on impact to donors?

We track program progress and SDG-aligned outcomes through monitoring, evaluation, and learning, and present results in clear dashboards and reports — giving funders transparent, traceable evidence of impact. See Data Insights & Dashboards.
